Fax Service
As more and more businesses operate out of homes and very small offices, the costs of purchasing a full complement of office equipment has become less attractive to many businesspeople. To forego the expense, many businesses are contracting certain services to outside providers in an effort to cut costs. While the services offered by these providers may not need to be called upon very often, when they do it's usually situation where the service is absolutely necessary to the flow of business. A fax service is a good example of this.
There are numerous variations on how fax services are provided. Some offices which hold several different businesses under their roof offer a central fax machine that can be used by any business owner. There is usually a per-fax charge involved and the customer service people or administrative assistants at the office complex will deliver and send faxes for this fee. If a business faxes infrequently, this is a good option.
Another type of fax service combines Internet technology with fax technology. In these cases, an office's copier is usually outfitted with a scanner. A document can be scanned to any computer on the network and then faxed directly from that computer without using a fax machine. Received faxes can be sent to one of the computers on the network and printed on a standard office printer. This arrangement eliminates the necessity of a separate fax machine and a phone line from which it sends and receives. More offices are choosing this service than ever before.
Providing a fax service is also a large part of the business strategy of many copy shops. These shops have grown from simple, one or two service affairs to outside contractors who fill the role formerly occupied by a corporate mail room. They generally have several fax machines and are open 24 hours per day which allows businesspeople to drop in whenever they need to use the service. This is particularly handy for self-employed individuals who don't have a legitimate need for a fax machine of their own.
A fax service is a good alternative to buying one's own fax machine. While this technology is still in use, it's far more a specialty type of technology than it used to be and is not normally a requirement for day-to-day business. When a fax is required, however, email and other types of document exchange generally won't do.
